Sri. Narayan Chandra De, the then Mayor of the City of Chandernagore was one of the active persons who were willing to re-start Collège Dupleix, which was abolished by the then French Indian Government, and remained closed for a period of 23 years.

However, efforts were made towards the end of 1917 by Sri Harihar Sett who promised to bear all costs for two successive years for the maintenance of the College if the College was re-established. Sri Narayan Chandra De, sanctioned grants which he had promised on behalf of the Municipality to revive the Institution.
